
The first traces of settlement have been observed since prehistoric times, through the Illyrians, the Greeks and Romans. It is believed that the name of Punat comes from the Latin pons, meaning bridge, since it is possible that there was a bridge that connected the narrow passage into Punat bay from the south. The name itself was first mentioned in written documents 1377.g. Today Punat has about 1800 inhabitants. The rich cultural heritage, here you will feel at every step in the parish church with Baroque altar, the medieval chapel of Sv. George, in preRomanesque St. Donat, the promenade above the village you will find a sculpture of the Cross, and Košljun, an islet in the middle of the bay, there was a unique harmony of natural beauty, rich culture and history. In a local Franciscan monastery are ethnographic and religious items and valuable old library to visit: the parish church of the Holy Trinity / olive mill dating from the 17th ST / Košljun island.
